It’s built in 970 AD to threaten the tides of the Qiantang River.Multi-storey is the most often used form for ancient pagoda. This pagoda has eight facades and 13 storeys outside and 7 storeys inside. Building pagodas to threaten the tides is only a wish of people. But it indeed facilitated river transportation. It’s like a light tower standing by the Qiantang river.The boats passing by can see it from distance.
