iPhone Pix (iPix)
I have become obsessed with “iPhone Photography”.
So much so that I decided to create an entire Collection of my iPhone shots, separated by theme-inspired sets on Flickr. This also makes it easier for me to share my iPhone photos here on Tumblr.
This collection is named iPix, which is a mixture of the phrase iPhone Pix, which is what I call my own iPhone-taken photographs.
There are certain things I tend to gravitate towards when trying to take “photographic” type pictures, such as flowers, statuary, and classic vehicles, and I want to set these apart from the family, event, and holiday shots. Having multiple sets in one collection gives me this freedom.
How It Began (And What It Has Become)
My iPhone is always with me and so it is easy to whip it out and take a shot. The more I did this, however, the more addictive it became and I soon found myself attempting to take “artsy” photos with my iPhone.
I did not think iPhone photos - with their naturally low resolution as compared to most digital cameras today - could ever be considered in the realm of actual “photography”, but I have seen some amazing work by other iPhone photo-takers, and there seems to be a growing “iPhone Photography” trend on Flickr.
The fact that I have not been able to find my digital camera for a couple of months now, yet have not missed it or missed out on getting shots of anything important, is testament to how my photo-taking is exclusively iPhone-generated these days.
The Specifics
All pics taken with an Apple iPhone 3GS, Version 4.3.5 (8L1) and Model MB717LL. The iPhone 3GS has a 3MP (3 megapixel) camera.
Some photos are taken or post-processed with iPhone apps. I most often use the Hipstamatic app for picture taking. Any post-processing work on the iPhone itself is usually done with the Camera Flash Deluxe or CamWow apps.
When applicable, any apps used will be listed in the photo’s description and tags.
The majority of my images are posted “as is”. Meaning I post them exactly how they came out with the iPhone camera or using an app to take or post-process the shot. However, I do sometimes play around with post-processing in Photoshop CS2, often using some of my favorite Actions. When applicable, PS work and any Actions used will be indicated in the photo’s description.
Apps, if used, will be listed with photo and in tags. If any other post-processing work is done, it will be indicated with the photo with all pertinent information.
For Other iPhone Photo Enthusiasts
Though I will be putting this information up later in its own separate post, I would like to list and link the tools I use for my iPix.
If you know any that should be added to this list or that I should try out, please let me know at skatoolaki AT gmail.

These include site-specific apps that allow you to upload photos to the internet from your phone.
In June 2011, one of my favorite sites, Make Use Of, posted this great and helpful article on camera apps: “10 Powerful & Useful iPhone Camera Apps To Help You Take Better Pictures”. For those still using their iPhone 3 phones (we that can not yet afford to upgrade to iPhone 4, that is) should definitely read “Take Better Pictures With Free Camera”, which shows how the free Camera Plus app can give you features and results similar to that of iPhone 4 users.
The “Screen Shutter” feature alone is worth the download for me - it turns your entire screen into a shutter button, allowing you to take self-portraits or arm-length group shots much more easily!
